This Sacred location is the largest known concentration of Prehistoric Rock Art in Canada. The Peterborough Petroglyphs consist of abut 900 images carved into the limestone outcrops which are dated around AD 900 and AD 1400.
The human, animal, abstract and Symbolic drawings represent the rich spiritual life of the Anishinabek tribes that created them. In modern times the Ojibwa Anishinabe Nation honours this sites sacred nation and call it Kinomagewapkong. Kinomagewapkong means “the rocks that teach”.
